SCREWED (no, not that way) That's really how I'm feeling about my chances of finding a social life in this area. Here's why.
* I'm entirely comfortable with social drinkers, but I don't drink (and I've already met SEVERAL women in Milwaukee who said they won't socialize with guys who don't drink).
* I'm a good cook, and I enjoy making meals with company, but I've got food allergies that make restaurant dining impractical -- and in Milwaukee, that seems to be a felony! I've already met several women here who said they won't date or even be friends with anyone who can't eat restaurant food.
Family members who've lived in Milwaukee for many years don't think I stand a chance of getting past these issues here because beer and food are such a big part of the local culture. They may be right, but I'm still hoping.
If you've made it this far, I'm tall/trim, mid 30's, I have solid social skills (and I do public speaking gigs from time to time), I enjoy watching sports (mainly football and basketball), I donate my time to the food pantry and animal welfare organizations (cats AND dogs are a huge part of my life), I have a great advocacy job, I love coffee houses (Milwaukee has some great ones), I'm a politiy active progressive/liberal (and I just can't relate to the FOX News crowd or anyone who supports Scott Walker), I'm spiritual - but not religious, and I'm affectionate -- my foot massage skills have gotten rave reviews, though I couldn't do it professionally because I love to tickle.
I'm excited by the prospect of meeting new people, finding new friends, and enjoying the holidays. No lofty goals (not looking for "the one"), though it would be nice to meet people unsatisfied married woman in Voluntown Connecticut I have things in common with.
